Ankush, an 8-year-old child from Golghat village under Panskura Block in the Purba Medinipur district, has demonstrated remarkable resilience and progress in his developmental journey. He belongs to a nuclear family of three, where his father works as a daily wage laborer and his mother is a homemaker.
At the age of four, Ankush was identified with a locomotor disability and was first brought to the Panskura Composite Rehabilitation Centre (CRC). At that time, he faced significant developmental challenges—he was unable to crawl, could not grasp objects, and had no speech. Ankush was entirely dependent on his mother for all activities of daily living, including eating, drinking, toileting, and personal hygiene. With limited awareness of his condition, his mother sought professional support to aid his development.
Following a comprehensive assessment, the multidisciplinary team at Asha Bhavan Centre designed and implemented an individualized intervention plan addressing Ankush’s physical, communication, and cognitive needs. Regular monitoring and periodic reviews ensured that the plan evolved in response to his progress and emerging requirements.
Today, Ankush’s transformation is both inspiring and encouraging. He has achieved significant milestones in his physical development—he can now crawl, independently change positions, maintain a squatting posture without support, and is beginning to stand and walk short distances on his own. His communication abilities have improved considerably, enabling him to express his needs verbally.
In addition, Ankush has gained greater independence in his daily activities. He is able to eat solid food, drink water from a glass, and use the toilet independently. His cognitive development has also progressed notably; he can identify fruits, vegetables, animals, and familiar objects. He has begun learning to read and write in both Bengali and English, including alphabets, numbers, and even his own name.
Currently enrolled in a mainstream school, Ankush is studying in Class II and continues to thrive academically and socially. His parents express immense joy and gratitude for his progress and remain deeply appreciative of the continued support provided by ReJenga.
Ankush’s journey stands as a testament to the impact of early intervention, consistent support, and the strength of a determined family.
