Pakistan is currently facing the worst economic recession in its history, with countless families struggling to make ends meet. In these challenging times, LRBT remains a beacon of hope, transforming the lives of millions through the gift of sight. This report highlights LRBT's pivotal role in restoring the vision of over 14 million men out of the 3 million patients treated annually, enabling them to become productive members of society once again. A poignant example of this impact is the story of Sikandar from Rahim Yar Khan, whose life was changed by the services of LRBT's newest hospital.

LRBT is the largest provider of free eye care in Pakistan, operating a network of 20 hospitals across the country. Our mission is to ensure that no one suffers from preventable blindness simply because they cannot afford treatment. In the past year alone, LRBT has performed over 292,000 eye surgeries, directly benefiting millions of patients who are now able to contribute to their families and communities.

Sikandar, a young laborer in his early 20s, hails from Rahim Yar Khan, a city in southern Punjab. Like many in his community, he works hard to support his family, engaging in various labor-intensive jobs. However, his life took an unexpected turn when a small piece of plastic flew into his eye while he was assisting with construction work at home. What seemed like a minor incident soon escalated into a major problem, as the initial treatment he received from a nearby doctor only worsened his condition, causing his left eye to water continuously.

Desperate for a solution, Sikandar considered traveling all the way to Karachi for treatment, a journey that would have been both physically and financially taxing. Fortunately, a neighbor informed him about the newly opened LRBT hospital in Rahim Yar Khan. With hope in his heart, Sikandar visited the facility and was diagnosed with cataract. Thanks to the expertise of the LRBT medical team, the cataract was successfully treated, restoring Sikandar’s vision.

Today, Sikandar works at a shoe shop in the city, earning more than he did as a laborer and proudly supporting his parents. He is deeply grateful to LRBT for ensuring that those in Rahim Yar Khan and nearby towns and villages no longer have to endure the stress and expense of traveling long distances to receive free eye care. Sikandar hopes that more and more patients will take advantage of the services offered by LRBT, just as he did.

The opening of the LRBT hospital in Rahim Yar Khan, the 20th in the LRBT network, has been a significant milestone. It has made quality eye care accessible to thousands who would otherwise be deprived of treatment. This facility is not just a hospital; it is a lifeline for individuals like Sikandar, who can now live productive, dignified lives.

By restoring sight, LRBT is empowering men across Pakistan to regain their livelihoods, support their families, and contribute to the economy, even in the face of the country's ongoing economic challenges. The story of Sikandar is just one of millions, illustrating the profound impact of LRBT’s work. With continued support from donors and partners, LRBT aims to expand their reach and bring the gift of sight to even more people across Pakistan, ensuring that no one is left behind in the dark.
