Dear Supporter of Girls in Burkina Faso,
We are *very* excited about the developments taking place on the ground in Burkina Faso with BARKA's MHM project.
We're currently in discussions with partners who distribute the menstrual cup, a new technology that has the potential to be a gamechanger for girls in Burkina. Yet there are inherent challenges that only a great deal of sensitization will overcome. We're currently developing the project for the current school year. It will require a pilot group of about 30 women and girls to receive training and begin using the cup themselves for 3 months. After that point, they will become project leaders and promoters to thousands of women and girls in Fada. BARKA is set to become the first NGO in Burkina to introduce menstrual cups.
BARKA is also developing another innovation- an MHM-adpated latrine only for girls. This is a simple idea- a place where menstruating girls and teachers can go to have some privacy, to access clean water, soap, over-the-counter medication, and to have a discrete way to dispose of waste. It will be maintained by the girls themselves and a school hygiene club which BARKA will help to establish. The vision is for a space painted beautifully on the outside and in- which girls feel proud to use and call their own.
Just in the past two weeks, we've met with the parents association of Fada's two biggest high schools- Lycee Communcal and Diaba Lompo- as well as principals from both schools. We've received enthusiastic recpetions from them all and have engendered their full support.
Today, November 28, the global community of do-gooders celebrates "#Giving Tuesday". Please consider supporting this exciting project which you've helped to bring into the world at this time. We are gaining momentum and need your continued support. Thank you so much! Together we will change the course of the lives of many Burkina girls, empowering them and developing leaders for generations.
Barka,
Ina & Esu and the Project Team
