Lens on Life Project: 2025 Q1

By Jack Powers | Cofounder

Dear Donor,

We are grateful for your unwavering support, which has been essential in allowing us to adapt our programs and respond to the needs of the communities we serve this past year.

In Cameroon, we celebrated the graduation of our last cohort of students with a vibrant exhibition of their work at the Comptoir de Artes in the capital city, Yaoundé. We are excited to welcome a new group of students who will be engaging with the Canon Young People Program curriculum over the next six months. Additionally, three of our alumni are continuing their education in digital arts at a local university, furthering their talents and careers.

In the Middle East, our programs in Zaatari and Kurdistan have successfully completed another round of the Canon Young People Program. The students have produced incredible work that beautifully captures both the beauty and resilience of their communities, showcasing their unique voices and stories.

We are also thrilled to announce the launch of our program with formerly incarcerated youth in New York City, starting on Tuesday, April 8th. This new group of 10 young individuals, who have faced challenges within the justice system, will embark on their journey as photographers, gaining valuable skills and opportunities for self-expression.

In Eastern Congo, the ongoing conflict between the M23 rebels and the Congolese Army has prompted us to adjust our focus. While we continue our commitment to photography training, we have also prioritized providing immediate aid to the community. We are distributing essential supplies such as food, water, and emergency materials, demonstrating our dedication to uplifting those we serve even in challenging circumstances.

The resilience and creativity of the youth we support inspire us to keep pushing boundaries and creating positive change. Thank you for your generous support, which allows us to make a significant impact in the lives of young people around the globe. We look forward to sharing our progress and achievements with you in the year ahead.

Warm regards,
Jack and Sam Powers
