In December of 2021, the City of Chicago decided to invest over $1 billion into affordable housing. This was achieved thanks to the tireless efforts of Department of Housing Commissioner Marisa Novara, who came by Sarah’s Circle this week with members of her team along with architect Chris Hale from Perkins & Will, who partnered with us to develop Sarah’s on Sheridan and the Judy Krueger apartments.
Sarah’s on Sheridan, completed in December 2020, is home to a 50-bed Interim Housing program, as well as 38 apartments for women with a history of homelessness. Commissioner Novara met with Executive Director Kathy Ragnar to discuss Sarah's on Lakeside, the next development to be home for an additional 28 women. Perkins & Will, the architecture firm behind these developments, has collaborated with the Department of Housing and Sarah’s Circle since 2012 for all three buildings.
At Sarah's Circle, Permanent Supportive Housing (PSH) is for women who are homeless, many of whom have suffered chronic homelessness. PSH provides the apartments, as well as the supportive services necessary to permanently end a woman’s homelessness. With this new development, Sarah’s Circle will have a total of 101 units of permanent housing--that's effectively ending homelessness for 101 women.
The reason we can celebrate hitting these benchmarks is because of you, our amazing donors. People like you who proactively take the mission of Sarah's Circle and make it known to their friends and families are the reason Sarah's Circle exists. We don't get results like this without your hard work and determination to help end homelessness for women--for that, we at Sarah's Circle are truly grateful.
