Vaga Lume’s mission to democratize access to reading in the Amazon continues to inspire young changemakers around the world. Among them are three teenagers from the United States who created the Readers of the Amazon project to support our work through fundraising and awareness campaigns.
From July to September, the group focused on strengthening their social media presence and recruiting new Ambassadors. As a result, three new Ambassadors joined the initiative, expanding its reach and impact. They also began preparations for a second garage sale, scheduled for November 8th, and started partnering with a local restaurant for another fundraising event.
These efforts build on previous successes, including a fundraiser with California Pizza Kitchen and a garage sale that raised over U$1,000 — all directed to our GlobalGiving campaign.
At Vaga Lume, we’ve been proud to support and encourage these young leaders. Their contributions directly fuel our work in the Amazon, where we’ve already opened four new libraries this year and carried out multiple field expeditions. Their current goal is to help us open a brand-new community library in the Amazon once the fundraising target is reached — a tangible and lasting impact for children in the region.
We invite teens from around the world to join Readers of the Amazon as Ambassadors or Volunteers. Together, we’re building bridges across borders and creating opportunities through the power of reading.
