Youth-Led Fundraising Expands Support for Reading in the Amazon
Vaga Lume benefited from a youth-led fundraising initiative carried out by the Readers of the Amazon, an international, purpose-driven projected by adolescents in the United States. Through a combination of digital outreach and local action, these young organizers mobilized their communities, directing new supporters to the GlobalGiving campaign and raising awareness about access to reading on the Amazon.
As part of this effort, the group organized a second in-person fundraising initiative, a garage sale, raising an impressive US$ 1,180.00.
From collecting donations and sorting and pricing items, to running the sale from early morning until the afternoon, the young volunteers led every step of the process with dedication and care. After the event, all unsold items were donated to local non-profit organisations.The funds raised during this period will support Vaga Lume’s ongoing expansion efforts, strengthening access to reading and educational opportunities for children and adolescents in Amazonian communities.
Youth-led initiatives like this highlight the power of community engagement in sustaining long-term impact. Their contributions enable us to expand our reach even further, creating meaningful and lasting opportunities for Amazon’s children.
