Challenge

The Amazon region holds significant strategic importance but faces poor developmental conditions and neglect of its inhabitant's rights. In light of the challenging educational realities in the Legal Amazon, Vaga Lume emphasizes the necessity of working with local communities to promote access to education, thereby strengthening their cultural identity. This effort provides children and young adults with tools to develop and protect their territory.

Solution

Vaga Lume gives access to books by establishing the necessary infrastructure to set up a library, in addition, it provides training in reading mediation and organizes local volunteers. These initiatives lay the groundwork for community engagement. Vaga Lume's methodology believes reading is a fundamental bridge to achieving greater social change. As a result, the libraries set up by Vaga Lume are not merely quiet spaces filled with books; they are spaces for sharing knowledge.

Long-Term Impact

Vaga Lume aims to empower children and young adults in rural Amazon communities by promoting reading and managing community libraries. This initiative seeks to strengthen personal, social, and cognitive skills important for the development of young adults. We hope the libraries will improve school development and academic performance, and increasingly consolidate community leadership.
