In the aftermath of Hurricane Maria in 2017, in Loiza, Puerto Rico over 3,000 families lost their homes. As we in Taller Salud started a census of our communities’ needs, it was clear that women were the backbone of the short term and long term recovery of their communities. And we were right!
After bringing food, medicines and rebuilding materials to 16,000 people in Loiza (which holds a population of 28,000) we validated that women are key to achieve an alternative and more comprehensive economic development in order to rebuild strong communities.
Right now we are helping women leaders to have a safer home during this hurricane season that started on June, 1st. The latest news are that Miliam, Telsa, Irene and Vidnalis are receiving your help, in addition to other 6 families, whom we help in transition homes, rebuilding their current houses or even finding them other sites to build brand new homes for them and their families.
After almost one year of Hurricane Maria, we want to let you now that these women appreciate a lot your contribution and we want to thank you for trusting our 39 years of community work.
