Overcoming Obstacles with SHI's Help

“Thank You, Self-Help International (SHI) for providing me with a trunk, chopbox, pillow, mattress, calculator, bedspread, and books for my journey to senior high school," says Zaliatu. When Zaliatu completed junior high school, she was determined to continue her education. Her parents shared this dream, but financial challenges made it difficult to afford all the necessary items on her school prospectus. Despite their best efforts, they could only provide a few essentials.

Zaliatu's hopes of attending senior high school seemed uncertain until Self-Help International stepped in to complete the items needed for school. "If I am here, on the campus of Amaniampong Senior High School, it is through the support of Self-Help International." Zaliatu proudly shares. Zaliatu was an active member of the Teen Girls Club in Nkontomire in the Atwima Nwabiagya Municipal of the Ashanti region of Ghana. With aspirations of becoming a nurse, she is determined to one day serve her community.

Zalia's journey has been challenging, yet she is determined to succeed. At the age of 13, she faced adversity when her community was infiltrated by illegal miners in 2021, and she became a victim of their illicit behavior, leading to a pregnancy that kept her out of school for a year. For many Ghanaian teenagers, this setback would have marked the end of their education. However, with unwavering support from Zalia's mother and the Teen Girls Club, she found the motivation to return to school and complete her basic education after giving birth. Now, Zaliatu has grown into a beautiful lady who is highly motivated and steadily advancing toward her goal of becoming a nurse.

Self-Help International's support has not only made Zaliatu's educational dreams possible but has also inspired her to give back to her community in the future. This transformative journey was possible because of you, our cherished donors who keep supporting us to help people help themselves.
