Dear Global Giver,
The One Team One Dream (OTOD) initiative, dedicated to building leadership qualities among the resource-poor and violence-affected girls through sports has made significant strides in the Mallikpur and Hariharpur Gram Panchayat villages in Kolkata, West Bengal in the past quarter.
We are happy to share an update on the achievements we have accomplished between December 2023 and February 2024.
Inaugural Football Camp: The OTOD project successfully conducted a Football Camp in December 2023. Despite initial parental resistance, the camp saw the participation of 35 girls, through persistent community outreach and negotiations with the parents. The camp's curriculum included intensive football training, theoretical classes, and diverse activities aimed at personal development. The footballers received invaluable mentorship from a former Indian football team captain, a veteran of the 1981 World Cup who shared her expertise and experiences to inspire these young athletes.
Enhanced Gender Understanding: During the reporting period OTOD increased its outreach to 125 girls through six gender sessions aimed at building a better understanding of gender. Utilising a gender toolkit featuring flashcards, these sessions tackled crucial topics such as gender inequality and violence against women.
Exposure to Non-Traditional Livelihoods: A key component of the OTOD project has been to expose women to non-traditional livelihood opportunities. Through organised visits, participants were introduced to careers in driving and wall painting, among others. This initiative sparked interest among the participants, with five women interested in driving and others considering wall painting.
Psychological Counselling Introduction: Addressing the critical aspect of mental health, OTOD introduced psychological counselling sessions conducted by a visiting counsellor. 35 girls attended these sessions that emphasized the importance of mental health support, and stress management.
School-Based Gender and Sports Programmes: Extending its reach, OTOD introduced its activities in five local government schools. These schools will begin to host gender understanding sessions and provide access to football coaching and counselling services.
As OTOD continues to evolve, its commitment to community development and empowerment remains constant. We owe a deep gratitude to donors and supporters like you, whose generous contributions have been the backbone of our successes.
Thank you for being an integral part of this transformative journey with One Team One Dream.
With heartfelt gratitude,
Team iPartner India
