Project Title: Empowering 500 Rwandan Women Living with HIV/AIDS
Implementing Organization: Human Rights First Rwanda Association
Project Overview
Human Rights First Rwanda Association is implementing a targeted empowerment initiative aimed at improving the socio-economic well-being of 500 Rwandan women living with HIV/AIDS. The project focuses on strengthening their capacity through structured training and dissemination of knowledge on economic self-empowerment, enabling beneficiaries to integrate meaningfully into sustainable livelihoods and community economic structures.
Women living with HIV/AIDS often face compounded challenges, including poverty, stigma, limited access to economic opportunities, and social exclusion. This project responds to these challenges by equipping beneficiaries with practical skills, knowledge, and collective strategies that promote self-reliance and dignity.
Activities Implemented
During the reporting period, the Association conducted a series of capacity-building and awareness activities, including:
Training sessions on financial literacy, savings culture, and basic entrepreneurship
Guidance on income-generating activities, small-scale businesses, and cooperative models
Community-based discussions addressing stigma reduction, inclusion, and rights awareness
These activities were delivered through participatory workshops, peer-learning groups, and facilitated discussions to ensure inclusiveness and active engagement.
Key Results and Outcomes
Beneficiary women demonstrated improved understanding of economic empowerment strategies and practical business skills.
Participants began forming self-help groups and savings associations to support joint economic initiatives.
Increased confidence and motivation among beneficiaries to engage in income-generating activities.
Enhanced awareness of rights and social inclusion contributed to reduced isolation and strengthened community participation.
Impact and Early Signs of Change
The project has contributed to improved economic resilience and social empowerment among women living with HIV/AIDS. Beneficiaries are better positioned to support themselves and their families, reduce dependency, and participate actively in local economic life. Collective organization has strengthened solidarity, peer support, and long-term sustainability.
Sustainability and Way Forward
Human Rights First Rwanda Association will continue providing follow-up mentorship, monitoring group progress, and linking beneficiaries to local economic opportunities and partners. Future activities will focus on strengthening existing groups, scaling successful income-generating initiatives, and ensuring long-term sustainability through continued skills development and partnerships.
