November 5th marked the short film premiere of "High Season", an audiovisual tool directed at raising awareness around the issue of child sexual exploitation. The premiere took place at the Uruguay's Parliament and had the support of the President of the House of Representatives and was financed by the Swiss Embassy. The film will be used in upcoming Claves trainings and is also available to the general public.
The "Uruguay against child sexual exploitation" campaign aslo mobilized in Rocha, Uruguay during the month of November. The department of Rocha was chosen to coincide with the "Rocha Week" festival as well as with the upcoming summer tourism season in mind. 20 adolescents and adults from educational institutions participated in the campaign. The campaign is supported by the Ministry of Tourism, INAU, CONAPEES, the Departmental government of Rocha, and MIDES-INJU.
Through a series of educational and recreational activities, the campaign positions young people as central actors in the prevention of sexual exploitation, as well as the promotion of fair and caring treatment of children. The adolescents participated in workshops on responsible tourism, human trafficking, how to raise awareness among tourists, prevention of commercial sexual exploitation and artistic urban interventions. The short film was utilized in the context of this training to spark reflection. The teens also learned a Flash Mob intervention in order grab the attention of passersby.
After the workshop series, several awareness raising activities were carried out in different public spaces throughout the department in the citites of Rocha, Chuy and La Paloma. Teens distributed brochures and stickers containing a commitment of fair and caring treatment towards children and adolescents. The materials also include information about how to report situations of child sexual exploitation.
