Championing Education: AFAWI Expands Girls' Empowerment Project to Agbogba Cluster of Schools
The Alliance for Women in Development (AFAWI) has officially expanded its flagship Girls' Empowerment Project to the Agbogba Cluster Basic School, located in the Ga East Municipality of the Greater Accra Region. This expansion marks a critical step forward in AFAWI’s mission to safeguard rights, improve health outcomes, and enhance educational opportunities for young girls in urban and peri-urban communities.
Baseline Needs Assessment Conducted
To ensure a data-driven and impactful intervention, AFAWI successfully conducted a comprehensive student needs assessment at the school. This assessment serves as the official baseline study for the project's implementation.
Baseline data was gathered to capture the unique challenges girls face daily.
Menstrual hygiene management gaps and facility needs were closely evaluated.
Academic barriers and drop-out risks among female students were documented.
Rights awareness levels regarding gender-based violence were measured.
Strategic Implementation Plan
The data collected from the Agbogba Cluster Basic School will directly shape the rollout of targeted interventions. By tailoring the project to the specific feedback given by the students, AFAWI ensures that resources are deployed efficiently and sustainably.
Empowerment clubs will be established to build leadership and self-confidence.
SRHR education (Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights) will be integrated.
Sanitation support will provide essential menstrual hygiene products to students.
Stakeholder engagement will involve teachers and parents to create a safe network.
Expected Long-Term Impact
By grounding the project in verifiable baseline data, AFAWI and the Ga East Municipality aim to significantly reduce school absenteeism among adolescent girls. This initiative will equip the students of Agbogba Cluster Basic School with the knowledge, agency, and resources needed to stay in school, break socio-economic barriers, and build brighter futures.
