Dear Dpnors
Karitas Relief Mission continues to support girls through practical sewing and tailoring skills that can help them develop confidence, creativity, and opportunities for future self-reliance.
The project is serving 156 girls, providing them with practical training in sewing, garment making, and basic tailoring skills. The training is designed to give the girls useful vocational skills that they can continue to develop both at school and within their communities.
2. Activities Being Carried Out
The girls are continuing with practical sewing sessions under the guidance of trainers. Training activities include:
- Learning how to operate and safely use sewing machines.
- Practicing straight stitching and controlling fabric while sewing.
- Learning how to measure and cut fabric correctly.
- Practicing joining different pieces of fabric.
- Learning basic garment-making techniques.
- Developing skills in making simple clothing and reusable items.
- Encouraging girls to work together, share equipment, and support one another during practical sessions.
The emphasis remains on hands-on learning, allowing the girls to gain confidence through regular practice rather than only receiving theoretical instruction.
3. Training Progress
The girls are gradually becoming more familiar with the sewing machines and are improving their ability to handle fabric and complete basic sewing exercises.
Some girls who initially had difficulty controlling the machines are becoming more confident with continued practice. The training is also helping them develop patience, concentration, creativity, and teamwork.
The practical sessions are giving the girls an opportunity to discover talents that can potentially become useful skills for their future.
4. Beneficiaries Reached
The project currently has a target of 156 girls. The girls are benefiting from access to sewing equipment and practical vocational training that would otherwise be difficult for many of them to obtain.
Beyond learning to sew, the project seeks to equip the girls with skills that can contribute to their future economic independence and reduce their vulnerability to poverty.
5. Results So Far
The project is contributing to:
- Increased access to practical vocational training for girls.
- Improved confidence in using sewing machines.
- Development of basic tailoring and garment-making skills.
- Increased creativity and interest in practical work.
- Greater awareness of sewing as a possible livelihood skill.
- Opportunities for girls to learn skills that can be developed into income-generating activities in the future.
6. Challenges
The main challenge remains the limited number of sewing machines compared with the number of girls who need practical training. Because the girls have to share the available machines, practical sessions need to be carefully organized so that everyone gets sufficient time to practice.
There is also a continuing need for additional sewing materials, including fabric, thread, needles, scissors, measuring materials, and other tailoring supplies.
7. Next Steps
Karitas Relief Mission plans to continue the practical training and provide the girls with more opportunities to practice their sewing skills.
The project will also continue working toward increasing the number of sewing machines and training materials so that more girls can have adequate hands-on practice.
As the girls progress, the project will encourage them to produce simple finished items that demonstrate their skills and help them gain greater confidence in their abilities.
8. Conclusion
The Empowering Girls with Sewing Machines project continues to give 156 girls an opportunity to learn practical skills that can contribute to their personal development and future livelihoods.
The progress is encouraging as the girls gain more confidence and practical experience. With continued support, the project can provide more equipment and materials, increase hands-on training time, and help the girls develop sewing skills that can benefit them and their families in the future.
