Due to unhygienic menstrual health mony rural women and girls of the villages are often sick but they do not tell any of their family members until they find the problem very big. The reason behind this sickness is not having the proper knowledge of safe and secure menstruation practices and not using sanitary napkins during their menstruation. It is a very big problem seen in the villages as the women and girls who are getting menstruation are shy to tell their parents or husbands about this and they follow the old traditional ways for it which not only makes the situation worse but it could also be life threatening but the this women and girls do not know about it until they have to go to the hospital due to it.
In this context, RSKS India organized Sanitary Napkin Packets Relief Materials Distribution To Needy Women & Mass Awareness Program About Healthy & Safe Menstrual Health under the Be Free: Happy Period With Sanitary Napkins Project. Under this program, more than 250 self help group women of 11 different villages were approached and then menstrual health awareness workshop, as well as 750 sanitary napkin packets were distributed by RSKS India to these self help group women. These women were told to openly discuss this with their husbands and also make them understand about the important of sanitary napkins for them so that they could also make sure that there are sufficient sanitary napkins at home for both the women and their daughter. Along with this, refreshments were also provided to these women after the awareness workshop. These women and girls were taught through flipcharts, stories, card sheets, aprons etc so that they could understand about the importance of using sanitary napkins and also adopt healthy and safe menstruation practices.
Through this program, the self help group women got to know about the importance of using sanitary napkins. They know understand that menstrual health is also important and now they would not use traditional practices during their menstruation. These self help group women openly discussed about their queries in the workshop and hence they got solution of those queries. These self help group women and girls got to use sanitary napkins which will hence protect them from many diseases. Now these women could easily communicate this important message to their girls as they got to understand that discussion on this is important. All the self help group members thanked RSKS India & donors for conducting such a wonderful program at their own village and took oath to always use sanitary napkins during their menstruation.
