Empowering Women's with Sustainable Livelihood

From time to time we see the impact stories from ground through our feedback forms. One of these wonderful Beneficiary's story is shared with you through this report.

A Story of Matiya......!!

My name is Matiya (Name Changed) and I am 46 years old. I live with my huband, 2 sons, 3 daughters and mother in law in a village known as Nagola. My husband goes for cattle grazing and sometimes for the daily wages work however his earnings are not even sufficient for the medicines of my mother in law as she is having paralysis. All of my children have not been married till now due to our poor financial condition. Many times me & my husband have to sleep in vain due to this. I tried to talk to my husband about me going out and work but due to conservative thinking of the society my husband always said no to me. I wanted to do some work to support my family financially still I was not able to do anything.

Year 2018, One day, I came to know about the women self help group program of RSKS India through my friend in a village. She told me that the people from RSKS India could support me and will do consultation with my husband and gave me the phone number of RSKS India team members. I called the RSKS team member and the next day the RSKS team came to me and listened to all of my problems and they said me that there are more women like me in this village and they could form a Women Self Help Group of ours in which they would work to empower women like me altogether. I told him to do this as soon as possible and soon they created our group and provided us a low interest loan for our sustainable livelihood. They did consultation with my husband and told me to start Goat Rearing for a better and sustainable livelihood. They also came every month to see my progress and also made me understand about savings and other banking activities.

Now me and my husband both are earning and are doing the household expenses. Now I have many goats which are providing me a sustainable livelihood. My husband went out earlier too for cattle grazing and now he also takes our goats to graze and I sell the goat milk to our village people while staying at home but still earning some money. Sometimes I also sell goats as so many goats could not fit in our small courtyard which also is profitable to me. Now from the savings which I started after being in the self help groups have made us able to do marriage of our children and soon we will be doing the marriage of our children. This self help group program of RSKS India not even made me self reliant but it also made me empowered as now I can speak and put up my thoughts in my family as well as in village. I have also increased my cattle farming business and have repaid the low interest loan. I thank RSKS India for making me believe in myself and have a better livelihood opportunity. Also I bless all the donors through which RSKS India is able to do such a nice and noble work.
