Dear Donors and GlobalGiving,
We sincerely thank you for your continued support of the Empowering the Girl through Education Project—a life-changing initiative that is transforming the lives of children and women across Northern Sierra Leone.
In communities where long-standing cultural norms once limited girls’ roles to domestic spaces, this project is steadily changing mindsets and opening doors to opportunity. What was once a daunting challenge—encouraging families to educate their daughters—is now becoming a shared community priority. Today, more girls are enrolling in school, staying in school, and regaining their confidence and dignity.
Through sustained community engagement, we have conducted mass sensitization campaigns in hard-to-reach communities including Moria Pan House, Mathinka, Mokondo, Laya, and Kerefay Loko. These efforts have raised awareness about the importance of girls’ education and challenged harmful norms that previously denied girls access to learning. One traditional leader shared that this was the first time their community had received such targeted support—highlighting the significance of your contributions.
We are also excited to share our partnership with Tech for Changes (UK), through which 500 girls are being trained in ICT skills. With the provision of 10 computers and a projector, girls are gaining hands-on experience with technology—many for the very first time. One participant expressed her joy after touching a computer for the first time, describing it as a moment that inspired new dreams for her future and her family.
In addition, the project continues to address critical protection issues, including early and forced marriage. Our community dialogues revealed that commercial bike riders are often linked to teenage pregnancies. In response, we have expanded our engagement to include these groups, promoting responsible behavior and safeguarding girls.
We are also working closely with local authorities and lawmakers to promote the Child Rights Act, increasing community awareness of the legal protections available and the serious consequences of rape and sexual violence.
While we are proud of these achievements, much more remains to be done. With your continued support, we can reach more vulnerable girls, expand access to education and skills training, and build safer, more equitable communities.
Thank you for being part of this journey of change. Together, we are giving girls the opportunity to learn, lead, and thrive.
Warm regards,
The Needy Today Team
