Report Empowering the Girl Child

By James Mansaray | Project Officer

Dear Donors and GlobaliGiving,

Empowering the Girl through Education Project is a Life Changing activity which is improving the lives of girls in Rural Sierra Leone more especially in the North Region. This project has become more popular due to its role in the lives of these girl children, giving rights and power to girls has been the bedrock of this project, which has helped a lot of girls regain their lost dignities. During the Christmas period the project engaged in mass distribution of food and non food items to girls in various villages in Bombali District. The project also focuses on helping girls who have been engaged in forceful and early child marriages, teenage pregnancy with food and non food items.
With the support from Crossroads Foundation who provides a 40ft container of goods that was distributed to girls, women and other vulnerable groups within Bombali District. Also, Crossroads Foundation donated 25 Desktop Computer that the project is currently looking forward to support, which will enable girl child to learn computer and ICT skills. This will make these girls become independent and self-reliant. The organisation is working very hard to setup the ICT school to get these girls start a new skills. Bulk of these girls has never set their eyes on computers talkless about using them or learning how to use them. This initiative will be a huge boost for these girls and the nation as a whole. This training will attract a lot of girls within and outside the Bombali District, and we will use this platform to campaign on ending early and forceful marriages, teenage pregnancy and FGM.

Also, due to the continuous suffering of girls during this COVID-19 period, the project provided food to young girls in various occasions. With the recent reopening of schools we supported girls with books, uniforms, school bags, pen, pencils and supports for extra classes to those that are facing public examinations.

The project still continues with it engagement to end or stop early and forceful marriages. From our engagement, we came to realise that bike riders are more in the habit of impregnating young girls, our focus now as an organisation is to hold focus group discussion with these bike riders in an effort to cushion this situation.

We are working very hard along with law makes to popularise the child right act, so people will be well aware about it and also emphases on the dangers of rape and sexual assult.

With this we want to say thank you for your continued supports and we hope we can able to support more children if funds are available.
