Spring Growth with Mirai no Mori

By Kozue Oka | Executive Director

Dear Mirai no Mori supporters,

As spring breathes new air into Japan, we’re excited to share how your generosity has continued to empower children from care homes across the country over the past three months.

February: A Magical Winter Escape
In February, we hosted 2 Snow Program sessions in the north of Japan. Around 80 campers joined us- some experiencing snow for the first time in their lives. Campers enjoyed yuki ita (Japanese-style snowboarding), sledding, classic snowball fights and building snow igloos (a huge favorite!), always challenging themselves to step out of their comfort zone.

March: Leader in Training Program Closing Ceremony
We took a quick break from our Back to Nature programs in March, and hosted a Closing Ceremony marking the end of a cycle of our Leader in Training program: a year-long program for high school students, focused on their preparation for independence from the care homes. This event celebrates the growth and achievements of each high school participant in the previous year. Some LITs will continue their journey with us next year, while others, graduating from high school, will move on to new chapters of their lives beyond their care homes, and join Mirai no Mori as graduates.

April: Easter Game Day
This year’s Back to Nature Easter Game Day happened to fall on Easter Sunday and felt extra special. We welcomed around 40 campers from 5 care homes for a day of outdoor running games, testing teamwork, communication and leadership. With the Japanese school year starting in April, the timing was perfect to reflect on goals and dreams for the year ahead.

Thank you for your continuous support in making all of these programs possible. Thank you for believing in our mission and helping us walk alongside these youth as they grow into strong, independent young adults.
