This past weekend, we had excellent weather as we hosted our April Back to Nature program in Mitake, Tokyo. This program we focused on "New Beginnings." With Easter and Earth day being held in April, we were happy to introduce these holidays to our campers and volunteers, majority of whom have never celebrated either. The campers showed great enthusiasm for their first Easter Egg Hunt!
In celebration of Earth Day, we made sure to take care of the Earth by picking up trash outside by the river. The campers were just as determined to find trash as they were to hunt for Easter eggs, and had fun showing others what they pick up.
We were more than happy to have Mirai no Mori ambassador, Hiroyuki Sakamoto with us again for this program. Sakamoto gave a very moving speech, sharing his story of growing up in a children's home and his courage and determination to become a professional boxer. He then led the campers and volunteers in a boxing workshop. Everyone encouraged each other by cheering each other on. It was a fun filled day with many new experiences. Thank you, Sakamoto and everyone else who came!
