As 2018 ends I am happy to report that, after unanticipatedly long delays, the materials needed for the rebuilding of the destroyed sections of the Forest’s elevated walkway arrived. That fact, and the end of our rainy season, allowed us to start reconstruction of the 3/4-mile boardwalk last week!
Barring any unforeseen problems, work should be completed by the end of January, at which time the Forest’s interior will be reopened to the public. I should add that visitors will find new and refurbished interpretative signage replacing those damaged or blown away by María.
As to the Forest Tour app, for which you provided key support, we’ve had discussions about the specifics with developers and are awaiting proposals. The developers are as excited as we are about launching this dynamic new educational tool. A decision on the developer should be made in the next week or two.
Unfortunately, the app may not be ready in time for the Forest’s January reopening. We will be doing everything we can to have it available early in 2019. We will, of course, keep you informed of our progress.
On behalf of the Pterocarpus Forest Board and team, thank you for your generous support during 2018. We wish you and yours happy holidays!
