Priya is a seventh-grade student from the Dombari community, one of the most marginalised and discriminated groups in South Asia.
She faced many challenges in her life, such as hearing impairment and mental health issues. Priya struggled with isolation, so she withdrew from school and society. She lacked the confidence and motivation to pursue her education and dreams.
Everything changed when she joined Savitrichi Shala, a support class run by Karuna’s local partner organisation in Anthrune village. There, she found a safe and supportive environment where she could learn, play and express herself with other children from her community.
She also became a member of the Balpanchayat (children’s council) group, where she learned about her rights and the importance of education.
Gradually, she started to attend school regularly and interact with her peers and teachers. She gained the courage and self-esteem to overcome her difficulties and develop her potential.
Karuna is proud to support Priya and many other children like her, who are facing multiple forms of exclusion and discrimination in South Asia. With your generosity, we can continue to support them to gain access to education, gender equality and sustainable livelihood projects. Thank you for your support.
