Meera, a bright and determined girl from Wadar Wasti in Pune, has grown up facing poverty and limited opportunities. For many years her parents believed education was out of reach and focused instead on daily survival.
Despite this, she studied hard while also working in a cloth shop to support her family and still managed to score 62% in her board exams. Just as she was preparing to continue her studies her parents decided she should leave school and marry early because of financial pressures.
At that point Meera turned to Karuna's team for help. Staff visited her home, spoke with her parents and explained why girls’ education matters. Over time her family agreed to let her continue studying.
Today Meera is in the 11th standard and recently scored 64% in her exams. She also attends Nirman sessions on child rights and life skills which have built her confidence and leadership. With a scholarship of 17,500 she is enrolling in computer and advanced skills courses. Her dream is to secure a government job as a civil servant and inspire other girls in her community to follow their ambitions.
As she told us, “No matter how hard the struggle, I will rise, study and show other girls that we too can lead and succeed.”
Your support is helping girls like Meera challenge early marriage, continue their education and build brighter futures.
Thank you.
