End Gender Violence through Arts, Dance & Drama

By Ugbede-Ojo Dominic Kadiri | Project Leader

Hi dear friends,

Thank you to everyone who has taken time to read about this project and share it with others. Your interest alone shows that ending gender violence is a shared concern. At this time, we have not yet received donations, which means the project cannot begin. Still, it is important to explain why this work is urgent and why community support is needed now.

Gender violence remains a serious threat across Nigeria. Women and girls face abuse in homes, schools, markets, offices, and even places of worship. Reports show that many cases go unreported due to fear, shame, or lack of safe places to seek help. In low-income areas, slums, and rural communities, access to trusted information and support services is often limited. As a result, violence continues, sometimes leading to severe injury or death.

This project plans to use arts, dance, and drama to reach people where formal education and media often do not. Live performances will be held in markets, schools, and public spaces within high-risk communities. The stories shared will reflect real situations, showing warning signs of abuse and safe steps to take. After each performance, trained facilitators will lead open discussions and share clear information on where survivors and witnesses can find help.

Using performance makes these messages easy to understand and hard to forget, even for people who cannot read or write. It allows communities to see the harm caused by violence and the role everyone can play in stopping it.

With support, this project can help break silence, change harmful attitudes, and improve safety for women and young girls.

With thanks,
Ugbede-Ojo Dominic Kadiri
