Project Title: End Period Poverty for Students in Sri Lanka
Reporting Period: June 2025
1. Introduction
During this reporting period, Save a Life successfully completed a sanitary pad distribution at J/Kokuvil Gnanapanditha School as part of the “End Period Poverty for Students in Sri Lanka” project. This effort supports female students from low-income and vulnerable families by providing essential menstrual hygiene products, aiming to reduce absenteeism and promote dignity and health.
2. Key Activities
We distributed sanitary pads to 39 female students at J/Kokuvil Gnanapanditha School. Each student received 12 sanitary pad packets, corresponding to one packet per menstrual cycle for a full year, totaling 498 packets. This distribution ensures these girls have uninterrupted access to hygienic menstrual products throughout the year. The students benefiting from this distribution come from economically disadvantaged and vulnerable communities, making this support critical to their health and school attendance.
3. Community Appreciation
The principal and teachers of J/Kokuvil Gnanapanditha School expressed their heartfelt gratitude to GlobalGiving for supporting this impactful initiative. They acknowledged the importance of such assistance in enabling girls to manage menstruation safely and attend school with confidence.
On behalf of Save a Life, we sincerely thank GlobalGiving and our generous donors for making this possible. Your continued support is vital in helping us end period poverty for students in Sri Lanka..;’
4. Challenges Faced
Logistical coordination in reaching vulnerable communities required careful planning. Ensuring privacy and dignity during the distribution process remained a key focus.
5. Impact on the Community
This distribution has empowered 39 female students to manage their menstruation hygienically without missing school. By alleviating the financial burden of sanitary products, the project fosters confidence, reduces absenteeism, and promotes gender equity within the school environment.
6. Plans for the Next Reporting Period
Save a Life will continue to expand sanitary pad distributions and menstrual health education in other schools across vulnerable regions. Additionally, we will explore improving menstrual hygiene infrastructure and fostering local partnerships to ensure sustainable support.
