Dear Donors,
Thank you for your generosity and commitment to protecting girls and promoting their rights. Your support is helping us challenge harmful practices and create safer futures for young girls in Nigeria.
Female genital mutilation (FGM) remains a serious threat in many Nigerian communities, affecting an estimated 20 million women and girls. Often carried out on girls under the age of five, FGM causes lifelong physical pain, emotional trauma, and serious health complications. Despite existing laws, the practice continues in secret due to cultural pressure and fear of rejection. The “Ending Female Genital Mutilation via Girls’ Sports” project uses sports as a powerful entry point to address this issue.
Through football and other sports activities, girls are brought into safe spaces where they build confidence, learn about their rights, and openly discuss FGM. Coaches and peer educators are trained to guide conversations, while parents, boys, and community leaders are engaged through sports events that encourage honest dialogue and awareness.
While the support received so far is encouraging, additional support is needed to kickstart activities. With continued backing, we can help protect girls, shift harmful beliefs, and build a strong network of advocates working together to end FGM and ensure girls grow up safe, confident, and empowered.
Warm regards,
