For-the-Kids (FTK) is a specialized mini-Olympics for children with disabilities (i.e., ADHD, Autism, Intellectual Disability, Down Syndrome, Cerebral Palsy, Hearing Impairment, and Visual Impairment) aged 5-12 years old from partner Special Education (SpEd) centers. Since its inception in 1984, FTK has benefited over 11,000 children with physical and intellectual challenges. FTK continues to advance initiatives that promote awareness on Disability rights and inclusivity within society.
There remains a significant need for greater awareness and education surrounding children with special needs, particularly regarding the seven conditions that affect them. An inclusive and accepting society is essential, specifically that which is embracing and adaptive to their unique needs and abilities. In education, it is equally important to cultivate a conducive environment equipped with proper and adequate resources to enrich their learning process.
The De La Salle University - For the Kids provides an avenue for children with special needs and volunteers to bond together and create precious memories for the children. It also sheds light on the seven conditions experienced by children from partner centers while allowing them to showcase their innate abilities through educational and recreational activities.
De La Salle University For The Kids is a transformative initiative for the children it serves and the community. It helps nurture their empathy, confidence, and social skills, contributing to long-term personal development. By sustaining this project, For-The-Kids fosters an inclusive and supportive environment, shaping compassionate individuals who are more engaged with the needs of marginalized communities.
