Since our last update in October, we were fortunate to be able to run programs again in November and December. We ran three school programs, including a day visit from Heyfield primary and two weeks of adventures on the property and hiking with both Freshwater Creek and Camberwell Grammar. We also ran two Holiday programs, including a Stage 1 and Stage 2, over which we had many volunteers, casuals and Stage 3's come up and help out. It was glorious to have so many young people back on the property, and what an amazing way to finish the year engaging young people with the mountains!!
The Stage 2's went on an epic 3-day hike into the Alpine High Country to the Crinoline, while the Stage 3's swam their packs across the river and learnt how to build a natural shelter, make friction fire and cook damper on the fire. All participants had a great experience and learnt a lot.
All Staff had a good 2 week December brake, with a few 2021 Staff coming back for January to welcome and help hand-over to the new 2022 Staff team. The new Staff team are a great bunch, bringing a variety of skills and personalities to the team. We are currently running the new team through their 3 month training period on which they learn and are equipped with a wide range of skills to aid them in safely and professionally delivering Woll programs and events.
Staff training includes courses such as Bronze medallion, Defensive Driving, 4WD training, a Bushwalking qualification with OETI, Communications training, Chainsaw training, Woll-specific hike training and program training and more. Its been a wet but warm January so far, and while we chose not to run our annual Fruitbottlng event, we have been able to stay COVID safe and healthy and complete our neccessty training as a team. We look forward to what will hopefully be a busy year with many programs to bring more young people into the mountains this year! Thank you to everyone for your ongoing support.
