Jenga Engineers Project Progress Report

By Samwel Kimani | Program Director

1. Overview

The Jenga Engineers Learning Space at Tumaini Innovation Center continues to make significant progress toward becoming a modern engineering and vocational training facility for over 300 street-connected youth, including teen mothers. The project is now in an advanced stage, with visible improvements in both structural and finishing works.

2. Construction Progress

Construction works are largely complete and progressing well. High-quality masonry using dressed stone has been finalized, and external painting is substantially complete, featuring a consistent cream finish with red column accents. A damp-proof course has been effectively applied at the base of the structure.

All window frames, grills, and glazing have been installed, enhancing both security and ventilation. The main structural components, including the upper floor slab, roofing, and staircase access, are fully complete. Current efforts are focused on minor finishing works such as paint touch-ups and surface cleaning. External works, including ground leveling and drainage, are still pending.

3. Quality Assessment

Overall workmanship is good and consistent, particularly in masonry and painting. The color scheme is well executed and visually appealing, while structural elements appear sound and complete. Site organization is fair.

4. Challenges

Some challenges remain, including unfinished external works such as landscaping and drainage, as well as the presence of construction debris around the site. There have also been minor delays in completing final finishes and site cleanup.

5. Impact

The near completion of the structure marks a major milestone. The facility is now clearly taking shape as a safe and modern learning environment that will provide vocational and engineering skills, support vulnerable youth and teen mothers, and create pathways to employment and self-reliance.

6. Next Steps

The next phase will focus on completing external works such as landscaping and drainage, final painting touch-ups, internal fittings and finishes, installation of electrical fixtures, and full site cleanup in preparation for handover.

7. Conclusion

The project is in its final stages, with major structural and finishing works completed. With focused effort on external works and final detailing, the facility will soon be ready for use. Progress remains steady and aligned with the overall project vision.

8. Appreciation

We appreciate the continued support from all stakeholders. This project is not just a building, it is a foundation for transforming lives and restoring dignity for vulnerable youth.
