Dawanu Afterschool Enrichment & Snack Program | June 10, 2025
Every Tuesday in Adaklu Dawanu brings something special—but this Tuesday was particularly joyful for a little girl named Gifty.
At just six years old, Gifty had never held a stamp before. But during our Lower Primary session, she beamed with excitement as she pressed a tiny red inkpad, proudly spelling out the word cat with carefully selected letters. As she named each picture—sun, hat, pop—her voice grew more confident, her smile wider
Under the guidance of Madam Irene, Gifty and her classmates practiced beginning sounds and animal names using stamps and flashcards. Older students like those in B2 and B3 moved on to spelling number names, pairing letters and numbers with enthusiasm. These playful activities aren’t just fun—they’re building critical early literacy and numeracy skills that many rural students miss out on.
Meanwhile, in the upper primary classes, a spirited reading competition unfolded. Grouped by teams and cheered on by their peers, students took turns reading aloud. One group, nicknamed Fan Ice, proudly won the day with an impressive 80% score! Teachers Madam Vincentia Ayi and Sir Francis Kpodo led with encouragement, helping students like 10-year-old Yao discover the joy of reading aloud.
For children like Gifty and Yao, this afterschool program is more than just a class—it’s a place where they’re seen, supported, and celebrated. With a healthy snack and dedicated mentors, each student leaves the day feeling proud and empowered.
$25 provides a week of healthy snacks and learning support for five students like Gifty. Your support helps them stay fed, focused, and full of potential.
