Dear Friends,
Because of you, 62 students from Kindergarten through Grade 6 continue to gather each week for learning, mentorship, and encouragement through our Dawanu Afterschool Program. An additional 10 older students have asked to join after seeing the excitement and progress of their peers.
We are also happy to share an encouraging development. Recently, students in Kindergarten through Grade 6 have been enrolled in a government sponsored school meal program. Each day, students bring their own bowls and receive one nutritious meal at school. For many families, this daily meal eases financial pressure and helps ensure children come to school ready to learn.
On Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays students strengthen literacy and mathematical skills through interactive reading, sentence building, songs, and math activities. Children who once hesitated to speak English are now forming sentences and participating with confidence.
Your support continues to provide an additional snack during our afterschool sessions. While the government meal supports students during the school day, the afterschool snack helps sustain them through extended learning hours. Together, these efforts are making a real difference in focus, attendance, and energy.
Clean Water Update: A Major Milestone
We are grateful to share progress on the Dawanu water project. The original borehole that served both the school and the community became unreliable, especially during the dry season.
Thanks to generous donors, repairs are underway, and a second, deeper borehole has now been successfully drilled.
This new borehole reaches a more dependable water source and is designed to provide clean water year round. Construction continues on the storage structure that will support the mechanized system, ensuring consistent access for students and families.
Reliable water means fewer illnesses, better attendance, and stronger academic outcomes. Clean water and education are deeply connected, and your generosity is strengthening both.
