Dear Donors,
We had planned to touch base with some feel good updates from the ground today, however the reason for this urgent appeal has changed direction slightly since receiving an urgent phone call from Our Local Volunteer in Abim yesterday morning.
You may have heard in the news that East Africa has been experiencing a severe drought over the last few months, with over 1 million people in Karamoja alone currently facing high levels of acute food insecurity.
After months of no rain, people in Abim, Kotido, Moroto, Kabong has reached crisis point.
With no rainfall to support farming and agriculture, the harvest that the community had been hoping and praying for will no longer happen, and the food supply for the whole region is incredibly unstable.
The severity of this situation is wide reaching and only intensifying, with almost half of the children in whole of Karamoja Region not attending school because the schools and parents are no longer able to provide food — this number too is only likely to increase.
A brief survey conducted by our team this week found that attendance rates at all Government and Private Schools have all been affected, with children in early childhood education and lower grade classes most affected due to their age.
Our Local Volunteer told us, “We expect to not have students in school by the time we finish this term. The situation is dire.”
We’re sharing this with you today because, to be totally transparent, we need your support more than ever.
Right now our team is hoping if you give support and donations to fine-tuning the logistics to load up trucks with maize, beans and other food supplies for all affected households and rural school communities, — but we can only do it with your support.
Kindly Donate Now this Giving Tuesday!
We hope to raise 25,000 USD to help provide food to Feed 100 households for a period of three month. Each household getting a food donation of about 250 USD (900,000 Uganda Shillings)
Thank you to all our Donors, for your loyal and life-saving support. We will be back in touch soon with an update on this emergency response, as well as some good news stories from our local Volunteers in the field..
As always, you can stay up to date with the impact your support is having on a daily basis by following our report updates.
With love and thanks,
Management!
