Empowering Communities to Eradicate Malnutrition

This quarter, EBPP continued our mission to prevent infant malnutrition in the next generation by empowering adolescent girls with iron supplementation and education.

In September, we distributed 320 iron tablets to 64 female junior and senior high school students at EBPP schools. This initiative aims to prevent anaemia, which not only affects female students’ health and learning capacity today but also reduces the risk of stunting in their future children.

For many of our new students, this was their first experience receiving iron supplements. To help them understand why iron is vital for their growth and wellbeing, our health team conducted an interactive educational session. Through a fun “snakes-and-ladders” style game, students learned about the importance of iron, how to recognise anaemia symptoms, and how nutrition affects their future health. The classroom was filled with laughter, enthusiasm, and curiosity, proving that students deepened their understanding of health in a joyful way.

Scaling Up the Family Model Intervention to eliminate Malnutrition

Beyond school-based initiatives, EBPP is also building on the findings of our five-year Malnutrition Study (2019–2024) to strengthen our community-level interventions to tackle malnutrition. We are now preparing a three-year scale-up of our proven Family Model Intervention across 19 East Bali villages.

In this next phase, we will train Posyandu (Community Health Post) cadres to educate families, especially those with pregnant women, mothers of children under two, and adolescent girls, on nutrition, health, and the importance of utilising local health services. Through this community-led approach, we aim to ensure lasting change by empowering local health workers and families to take ownership of their wellbeing.

Your continued support makes this transformation possible. Thank you for helping us create healthier futures for children and families in East Bali.
