Summary

In Eswatini, hungry children cannot learn. Orphaned and food-insecure children rely on Neighborhood Care Points (NCPs) - their only safety net - where most receive nothing but corn porridge for lunch. Without adequate nutrition, children lose focus, miss school, and fall behind. Every Thursday, The Right Hands delivers a balanced meal of rice, chicken, and vegetables to over 400 children at 6 NCPs. One meal a week keeps vulnerable children nourished, present, and ready to learn.

Challenge

Eswatini has one of the highest HIV rates in the world, leaving many children orphaned and vulnerable. Food insecurity is widespread, and 25% of children under five suffer from stunting. Local Neighborhood Care Points (NCPs) offer meals and basic education, but limited resources mean most can only serve corn porridge - lacking protein, vitamins, and iron. Without proper nutrition, children lose focus, skip school, and fall behind.

Solution

Every Thursday, The Right Hands delivers rice with chicken and vegetable stew to over 400 children at 6 NCPs in Eswatini. This meal replenishes the protein, vitamins, and iron missing from their daily diet. One nutritious meal restores energy, improves attendance, and re-engages children in learning. Children who had been absent are returning to class. One meal a week keeps a child present - and a care center alive.

Long-Term Impact

Regular nutrition prevents malnutrition and supports healthy development during children's most critical years. As attendance grows, more children access basic education and greater opportunities. Being cared for consistently builds self-worth, resilience, and hope. Over time, this cycle of nourishment, attendance, and learning has the potential to break the cycle of poverty in Eswatini - one Thursday at a time.
