We have made our first investments in Mombasa and graduated our 2nd cohort of trainees! Our 3rd cohort is going to start this May, with 40 trainees it will be our biggest cohort yet. We will provide digital training to 80 aspiring entrepreneurs with 40 being accepted into our 3-month training program.

And we are getting ready to launch our Mombasa Hub later this year! Your kind donations have helped get us closer to our goal. Please keep sharing our campaign to build Mombasa!

Some examples of entrepreneurs we have invested in are:

  1. Purity and Dennis have created a fish freezer that makes it affordable for fisherman to keep their fish for longer. With a pay as you go model fishermen are able to own the freezer after a year. These fish freezers are made fiberglass and connected to solar, making them durable and good for the environment.

  1. Rosaly recycles used tires to create swahili footwear and accessories. She trains and works with youth from her community in order to create jobs, employing 9 youth already. Her vision is to be able to expand to international markets so that she can create more jobs.

  1. Alfred has a construction company that trains youth on how to build affordable housing. He trains for free in agreement that his trainees work for him for 6 months after graduating. He is creating jobs for the youth while improving the quality of life of the people in his community .

Why will our Mombasa Hub be important?

Our hub will be a safe space for entrepreneurs from low-resource areas. We will provide free internet and access to computers and entrepreneurship material. By locating our hub in a low-resource area of Mombasa we will be easily accessible to the communities we are working in. Our hub will also be a location to display the different products that our entrepreneurs have, it will be a point of contact for our entrepreneurs and their clients. Furthermore, there is a shortage of hubs that focus on the development of women and youth, our hub will provide a facility that fosters creativity and innovation among these demographics.

Thank you for your support!

Sincerely,

Jason Anjichi

Training Coordinator, Mombasa
