A successful story to share

By Carmen Argueta | President

Your donations have helped a lady farmer learn to successfully raise garden produce that has improved her family’s health and reduced her expenses. She, 54 years old lady, lives in the Amando López community with her mother and one granddaughter.

Her garden has allowed her family to grow tomatoes, chili peppers, and other vegetables, as well as aromatic and medicinal plants that she uses to flavor meals and to make teas for common diseases that impact her family. By sowing and harvesting the produce with the participation of her family, she obtains healthier food and reduces expenses. Previously, she bought most of these products, but now they are available at home when she needs them.

She had never worked in gardens before the project so she needed assistance to be successful. She learned about planting, plant care, and pest management. She especially values the knowledge about natural repellents and cultivation techniques that she has acquired. This year, heavy rains affected her crops; however, she used the technique of lifting the soil with boards and incorporating organic matter to help reduce soil saturation.

Although most of her garden produce is for her family, She has sold some products to the neighbors. Also, the garden has allowed her to share food with children and grandchildren who live nearby.

Our friend is committed to gardening and plans to continue planting and maintaining her garden, using the seeds she harvests and applying the knowledge she has acquired. She and her family want to thank everyone who has supported the vegetable garden project. Your donations have helped her family be healthier, more financially secure, and more resilient.

Something else!

We have the opportunity to increase donations during GlobalGiving’s July Bonus Day. Here are some details:

  •  Starting at 10 a.m. EDT on July 16, individual donations between $100 and $1,000 will be proportionally matched from GlobalGiving’s Incentive Fund of $125,000, based on fundraising totals for all organizations at the end of the 24-hour campaign. We can receive up to $2,000 in match money from GlobalGiving to make your donations go even further!
