Clean water for 917 households Kenya

Thank you so much for supporting our project to provide access to clean water for families across Kericho county, Kenya where 55% of households have to use dirty water from rivers and ponds.  We are bringing you an update on the project at a time when clean water is more important than ever as the county is in lockdown due to rising numbers of COVID-19 cases with the Delta variant showing in 90% of positive cases.

We have been busy distributing 1000 boxes of soap, enough to reach 24,000 households and over 127,000 people.  We are working with 312 schools reaching 107,299 children and 4,649 teachers with soap and water for handwashing stations at school.  Two school toilet blocks and a 32,000 litre water tank have been completed and other construction and spring protection projects continue.

We have supported 1,694 Boda Boda drivers with information and handwashing facilities at their work stations.  Boda Boda is the name given to the motor cycle taxi service and keeping the drivers and their passengers safe from the spread of the virus is vital.

The current situation is critical and brings home the vital importance of access to clean water.  Less than 1% of the population in Kenya have received a COVID-19 vaccine and everyone is waiting for more vaccines to arrive.  Meanwhile, soap and water are the best defence for households and health services alike in the battle against COVID-19. 

We will be participating in the GlobalGiving July Bonus Day Match Fund on Wednesday July 14^th.  Donations over €80 will be matched from 2pm (Irish time) on that day and the higher the amount donated, the higher the match while funds last.
