THE MAGIC WAND

“If you had a magic wand what would you do Belen?”

“Well…I would like lots of pencils and a family forever, a family to live happy and loved for the rest of my life.”

Wishes come true and Belen found her mom and daddy , they are Italian and they have been waiting for their little girl for five years.

Hello dear donor,

How are you? I have great news: one of our  girls has been adopted, her name is Belen and this Christmas she asked for a family. Just a few weeks later we received the notice that our social services had found an overseas family for Belen.

Actually we were shocked, as you know here in Puerta Abierta WE ARE the family of our little girls, and besides it never happens that someone wants to adopt a girl who is nine years old. Usually they want little babies, which we understand and respect, therefore our heart was full of joy when they gave us this wonderful news.

“To adopt “ means “to desire”, to adopt means to find whom you were looking for: your soulmate.

And that’s what happened to Belen, this is her happy ending story. This was Belen’s fairy-tale.

Everything sounds perfect until here right? Yes, I agree with you; but the point is that thanks to you, thanks to your help and kindness Belen, just like the other girls living in Puerta Abierta, is not leaving an orphanage without love and care, but she’s going away from a warm little house full of love and warm feelings. A little house called Puerta Abierta, where our children live like sisters and where they learn to protect each other and to visualize their life together. And then one day Belen’s desire comes true. So she’s happy and their parents too, and so are we but.. please take a breath and close your eyes. IMAGINE YOU ARE ONE OF OUR GIRLS. Your name is Ximena and you are ten years old. You have been living in Puerta Abierta for the last two years and Belen is your best friend. You are living with us because your adoptive mother didn’t want you anymore and “returned you” like a box to the social services. This is your story, at the end of the day you’re happy because in Puerta Abierta you have found love and Belen. But now she’s going away, now she’s been adopted, now she’s going to live in Italy and she’s happy… so you have to smile to her and pretend to be excited about her new life. But your heart is broken, once again. Please dear donor, open your eyes.

How do you feel? Because this is a real story, the real story of Belen and Ximena. Now we have to deal with the sadness of Xime (like we use to call her) and try to find a light in her in order to see her calm and in peace.

We did a good-bye party four days ago to say good-bye to Belen; we thought a lot about how to organize it and then we decided to start finding that light that Xime lost because of Belen’s adoption. So we lit a lot of candles, and we all said something to Belen; everyone just said a word or just smiled. Then we made an energy circle to support Belen and to support us: we desire you all the best Belen but we will miss you, we will miss you a lot little princess.

Dear donor, like you may imagine soon a new girl will start living with us (of course we will tell you everything about her in the next report) and your support will be really important like always in order for her to have the same opportunities you gave, and are giving, to the other children of Puerta Abierta.

Now, to be honest, we all need to learn to live without our Belen, but we are happy and proud of her; we are all looking forward to eating her first home-made Italian pasta!!

With love
