Life Cicle

By Guadalupe Velazquez | Girls Coordinator

A NEW LIFE CYCLE AT PUERTA ABIERTA

Life goes on, with constant movement, with no time to spare, forcing us to plan along.

This thought just to tell you that our first generation of young women has fulfilled the goals set forth by Puerta Abierta when founded.  To support them  to become independent and self – sufficient.   Their Independency built through education, all the way up to a university degree, and a professional life with a stable job. Being economically independent, building their personal lives, without forgetting the love and care of a family that believed and cared for them.  This first generation has completed this cycle, having flown away from Puerta Abierta, although maintaining ties with us, their family.

And this family has grown again!

Now, we have a new generation, having shared some time with those already gone.

In light of this, we want to be better prepared, trained, and more supportive and to be closer to these girls.  Thus, we have entered a new project to be prepared to better handle those traumas caused by their early infancy.

Currently, we are being counseled by BYDA a non-profit organization focused on children rights, working on strategies for understanding and applying knowledge of those rights through a program called “Crianza con Ternura” (Upbringing with Tenderness). This is supported by the EMDR therapeutic methodology, which already is showing good results in children having gone through trauma, that can now have a better, healthier and positive life

All the girls and PA personnel (tutors and helpers) participate in this program, including us on the Board.  It has been a wonderful and rewarding experience, taking us to redesign our everyday behavior, leaving behind old, odd and non-functioning upbringing techniques. Now that the girls know their rights, has taken them to have better self-respect, while asking all involved to respect them.

We are sure that this new road taken, will help us and take us to better outcomes.  We are all very enthusiastic, as everybody is fully immersed in this, and we are certain we will get healthier and happier girls.

Let it be!! And  It will be!!!
