By Francesca Pellegatta | Junior Project Manager
Dear Donor,
Last January our Project Manager Aleimar in Kenya Francesca has joined the periodic monitoring trip in the County of Embu in order to visit our project and the family homes “Nginda”. Bernard and Sister Felicita of the Congregation of the Consolata, the coordinators on the field of the project, have welcomed Aleimar. Sister Felicita updated Francesca on the project and illustrated the steps that brought to the birth of the project.
The beginning of this project dates back to 2008, when Sister Felicita and her family started helping the children of their neighbors in her native village (Nguthi). The socio-economic and health conditions of the people of the closest villages became worse and in 2011 Sister Felicita came back to the village of Kamuratha, for the 25th anniversary of her ordination. Sister Felicita decided to investigate the situation. She visited 6 outstations of the parish of Nguviu, the “prayer houses” (homes where 4/5 families meet in order to pray during the week due to the distance of the churches) and the leaders of the Christian communities of the area.
In agreement with the local priests, they convened a meeting and 17 women took part to it. The meeting had the purpose of understanding how many children were living in a state of need and emerged the fact that there were around 500 children and 88 needed an immediate support.
Thanks also to your support, the project has grown during these last twelve years and has become the place where 88 children can now receive daily meals, medical care and education.
Thank you!
