Joy for Children Uganda has continued to work closely with women’s savings groups in the communities we support. Over the past period, the groups have met regularly to save, learn, and support one another. Most of the women have been able to save small amounts each week, and many have taken loans to boost their small businesses or meet essential household needs such as school fees and medical care.
Through our engagement, we have guided the women on simple financial skills, helping them improve how they manage their savings and keep proper records. Many members shared that being part of the group has given them confidence, a sense of belonging, and the ability to make decisions that benefit their families. Several women have started or expanded small ventures like selling vegetables, tailoring, or running small shops, and these activities are helping them provide more consistently for their children.
The groups also continue to offer emotional and social support. Women meet not only to save but also to share their challenges and encourage one another. This has strengthened unity within the groups and created a safe environment where members feel understood and supported.
A few challenges remain, especially the limited access to larger capital for women who wish to grow their businesses further. Some groups still need more guidance on bookkeeping to ensure consistency and transparency. Despite these challenges, the savings groups are progressing well, and the women are increasingly becoming more financially stable and independent.
Joy for Children Uganda is grateful for the continued support from donors, which allows us to walk alongside these women as they build better lives for themselves and their families. We remain committed to strengthening the groups further and expanding this initiative to reach more women in need.
