Project Title: Feed Children in 1000 Schools Across Sri Lanka

1. Introduction

Save a Life continues its ongoing programme to address malnutrition among school children across Sri Lanka. The project aims to provide regular meals, improve nutritional awareness, and reduce the health risks associated with food insecurity. During the reporting month, limited funding restricted the implementation of feeding activities; however, key groundwork through need assessments and community-level awareness programmes was successfully carried out.

2. Key Activities

a) Primary Needs Assessment

  • Conducted surveys in selected schools to understand the nutritional needs of children.

  • Gathered data on current food intake, gaps in dietary diversity, and socioeconomic barriers affecting children’s nutrition.

b) Nutrition Awareness Programmes

  • Organized community awareness sessions for parents, teachers, and students to highlight the importance of balanced nutrition.

  • Shared simple and low-cost meal preparation practices that families can adopt at home to improve children’s diets.

3. Challenges Faced

  • Insufficient Funding: Lack of funds prevented the start of feeding activities in schools as planned.

  • Community Expectations: High expectations from parents and schools for immediate feeding support created pressure when funds were unavailable.

4. Impact on the Community

  • Increased understanding among parents and teachers of the importance of child nutrition and healthy food practices.

  • Collected baseline data through assessments, which will serve as an important foundation for scaling up the feeding programme when funds become available.

5. Plans for Next Month

  • Continue advocacy and fundraising efforts to secure sufficient funding to begin feeding activities in selected schools.

  • Expand nutrition awareness sessions to additional communities and schools.

  • Share needs assessment findings with stakeholders to highlight the urgency of addressing child malnutrition in Sri Lanka.

6. Thank You

Save a Life is deeply grateful to its partners, donors, and community members for supporting this ongoing programme. While feeding activities have not yet started due to insufficient funds, your contributions have helped us lay the groundwork through assessments and awareness. With your continued support, we remain committed to ensuring children across Sri Lanka receive the nutrition they need for healthy growth and learning.
