Stand with Karamoja Against Hunger

By Othieno Gerald | Project Leader

Karamoja's hunger emergency requires compassion, cooperation, and sustained humanitarian attention. Prolonged drought, below-average rainfall, crop failure, and reduced household purchasing power have combined to make food increasingly difficult to obtain for many families across the region.

The September 2026 IPC assessment estimated that approximately 673,000 people in Karamoja were experiencing Crisis-level food insecurity or worse. The assessment also highlighted serious concerns about acute malnutrition among young children, demonstrating the importance of protecting vulnerable people during this emergency.

The Girl Child Foundation Uganda (GIFU) is raising its voice for communities struggling with food shortages and calling on supporters in Uganda, across Africa, and around the world to stand in solidarity with affected families.

Through GlobalGiving, we encourage individuals, businesses, foundations, and humanitarian partners to help raise awareness and mobilize support for appropriate relief and recovery initiatives. Immediate food assistance, nutrition support, improved water access, and climate-resilient livelihoods all have important roles to play in addressing the consequences of prolonged drought.

Every act of solidarity can help bring this crisis to the attention of people who have the ability to contribute to a meaningful response.

Let us unite to ensure that Karamoja's families are not left to face this emergency alone. Together, we can help turn compassion into action and hope into a stronger future for vulnerable communities.
