The hunger crisis in Karamoja calls for a united response from people and organizations committed to protecting vulnerable communities. Prolonged drought, below-average rainfall, crop losses, and limited household purchasing power have combined to make food increasingly difficult to obtain for many families.
According to the September 2026 IPC assessment discussed in this appeal, approximately 673,000 people in Karamoja were facing Crisis-level food insecurity or worse. The reported risks of acute malnutrition among young children further emphasize the importance of sustained humanitarian attention and practical action.
The Girl Child Foundation Uganda (GIFU) is inviting donors, businesses, philanthropic institutions, governments, humanitarian organizations, and individuals across Africa and around the world to stand in solidarity with the people of Karamoja.
Through GlobalGiving, we aim to bring greater attention to the crisis and encourage support for appropriate humanitarian interventions. Immediate food assistance, nutrition services, reliable water access, and drought-resilient livelihoods all have important roles to play in helping families address current needs and prepare for future challenges.
No single organization can solve a crisis of this scale alone. Cooperation among communities, humanitarian partners, governments, and donors can help strengthen the response and ensure that vulnerable households receive greater attention.
Together, we can help turn concern into meaningful action. Stand with GIFU and the people of Karamoja as we work toward a future where families have more reliable access to food, children can thrive, and communities are better prepared for drought.
