Imagine preparing your land, planting your seeds, and waiting for the rains, only to watch your crops wither under relentless dry conditions. For many families in Karamoja, northeastern Uganda, this is the painful reality of prolonged drought. Harvests that should sustain households are being lost, leaving parents struggling to find enough food for their children.
The September 2026 Integrated Food Security Phase Classification (IPC) assessment estimated that 673,000 people in Karamoja were experiencing Crisis-level food insecurity or worse. This alarming situation reflects the growing hardship facing families whose livelihoods depend on rainfall, agriculture, and livestock.
When crops fail, families lose more than food. They lose income, security, and the ability to plan for tomorrow. Children become particularly vulnerable when household meals become smaller and nutritious food increasingly unaffordable.
The Girl Child Foundation Uganda (GIFU) is calling on compassionate individuals, businesses, humanitarian organizations, and development partners to stand with Karamoja's struggling communities.
Through GlobalGiving, we invite supporters to help mobilize resources for appropriate food assistance, nutrition interventions, and longer-term solutions that strengthen resilience to drought.
Your compassion can help turn despair into hope. Stand with Karamoja today and help families facing the devastating consequences of failed harvests. Together, we can work toward a future where drought no longer leaves children hungry and parents helpless.
