The consequences of hunger can extend far beyond an empty plate. When families struggle to obtain sufficient food over an extended period, they may be forced to sell productive assets, reduce essential spending or take on debt. These decisions can undermine their ability to recover and make them more vulnerable to future emergencies.
In drought-affected communities of Karamoja, food insecurity can place pressure on household livelihoods, children's welfare and the stability of entire families. Emergency assistance is therefore important not only for meeting immediate needs but also for helping households avoid some harmful coping strategies.
GIFU is appealing to donors to help support vulnerable families through food assistance and community-focused interventions. Longer-term approaches may include livelihood diversification, improved water access and climate-resilient practices suited to local conditions.
With sufficient resources and effective partnerships, humanitarian organizations can work toward responses that address immediate hardship while helping families rebuild their resilience.
Your contribution can become part of this effort. By supporting GIFU's campaign, you can help bring attention and assistance to communities affected by hunger and contribute to a future in which families have stronger opportunities to secure food and protect their livelihoods.
Together, we can help vulnerable households move from crisis toward recovery and greater stability.
