Dear Donors,
School attendance is closely linked to household food security. When families face hunger, children may miss school because they are too weak to learn, needed at home, or affected by the stress of household hardship. In severe situations, families may prioritize survival over education.
Across northern Nigeria, food insecurity continues to threaten children’s learning opportunities. A child who lacks nutritious meals may struggle with concentration, memory, and classroom participation. Over time, this can affect confidence, performance, and future success.
Food security helps protect education by creating stability at home. When families have access to food, children are more likely to remain in school and focus on building skills for the future.
Empower Future Initiative sees nutrition as a foundation for education, child protection, and long-term development. Helping families meet basic needs today supports children’s ability to learn tomorrow.
Keeping children in school begins with ensuring they are healthy, nourished, and supported.
Best wishes,
Empower Future Initiative Team
