Dear Partners,
Adolescents are often overlooked in food security discussions, yet nutrition during adolescence is critical for growth, learning, confidence, and future productivity. Young people need adequate food to support physical development, concentration, emotional well-being, and active participation in school and community life.
Across northern Nigeria, adolescents in food-insecure households may face serious challenges. Hunger can affect school attendance, learning outcomes, mental health, and future readiness. Girls may face additional risks because poor nutrition can affect maternal health later in life, while boys may be pushed into work or unsafe coping activities when households are under pressure.
Empower Future Initiative believes that adolescent nutrition is essential for long-term community development. Supporting young people during this stage helps prepare them to become healthier adults, stronger leaders, and productive contributors to society.
Food security for adolescents is an investment in the future. When young people are nourished, they are better able to learn, lead, and build better lives.
Best wishes, Empower Future Initiative Team
