When Support Falls Short, We Step In

By Jailen Pierre | Development Manager

This year has tested the resilience of the communities we serve. With SNAP reductions and cuts to other essential safety-net programs, many people who once relied on those supports are now facing even deeper food insecurity. At Rescuing Leftover Cuisine, we’ve been working hard to bridge those widening gaps, and thanks to our incredible community of supporters, we’ve expanded our reach while rescuing more surplus food than ever from restaurants, caterers, and major sports venues.

So far this year, we’ve rescued 3.3 million pounds of food, a tremendous milestone that has led to:

  • 2.7 million meals shared with individuals and families in need

  • 7.69 million pounds of carbon emissions prevented

  • New partnerships with Fenway Park, Barclays Center, and Citi Field to recover stadium surplus

  • A 167% increase in corporate volunteer participation

  • 272 dedicated food donors fueling our mission

We’re deeply grateful for every donor, volunteer, and partner whose generosity makes this work possible. Your commitment ensures we can continue delivering meals, and hope, to those who need it most.

Our partners see firsthand just how critical this work is. One of our longtime collaborators, The Elijah Humanitarian Corporation, recently shared:

“Rescuing Leftover Cuisine's continued support of The Elijah Humanitarian Corporation is deeply appreciated. Thanks to your generous food donations, we’ve been able to reach underserved communities struggling with food insecurity in Upper Manhattan and the Bronx. We have a lot of work to do, and your generous donation helps us get that important work done.

The impact of Rescuing Leftover Cuisine is invaluable, it comes right on time, and we are grateful. It addresses food insecurity, reduces waste, and it is nutritional. Having the basics alleviates hunger, reduces stress and anxiety associated with lack of access to food, all while serving the community. We get responses such as ‘Thank you for thinking about us. We appreciate you.’ One person stated, ‘I haven’t eaten all day, this is the first meal I've received.’ Thanks to organizations like Rescuing Leftover Cuisine, we can continue our efforts together to fight food insecurity one meal at a time and serve hundreds in the community.”

As the nation braces for the impact of federal program cuts, RLC and our supporters are stepping up every day. In the face of challenge, there is opportunity, not only to rescue food and protect the environment, but to bring comfort, dignity, and stability to those hit hardest.

Because of supporters like you, millions have already been helped.
Together, we can reach a million more.
